Happy Birthday Beautiful!

August 27, 2019 Simon Says Stamps

Hey! How are y’all? It has been a long time. I have not been able to craft like I generally do for last few weeks. Life kinda took over. This month and next month are university applications for my daughter. It is so complicated as she is applying to all the states in Australia. Since she is applying for Vet sciences and Medicine, the number of documents to cumulate and submit is huge. It take number of hours each day to sort each application. Six states and so six applications. I am helping her out and that is taking most of my time. Final exams in couple of months. So the stress level is the highest at home. My craft has taken a back seat at the moment. Until November, I will be sporadic in my posting. So please bear with me.

Today though, I have a project to share. I was itching to colour. I miss crafting. When I found some time yesterday, I stamped and coloured the images from Simon Says Stamp’s Beautiful Mermaid stamp set to make this card.

Mermaid card 1

I did a lot of masking and stamping to create a scene using the images from Beautiful Mermaid stamp set. I really enjoy masking and stamping. You can personalise your scene by this technique. I used Bristol cardstock so I can watercolour. For that I used Zig Clean Colour brush pens. I added light wash of colours to colour the images, coming back with a darker shade to add depth and shading to the images. Once the watercolours are dry, I came in with Polychromos colour pencils to add more shading and depth to the coloured images. I masked the images using the masks again and sponged the background using distress oxides inks. I will list the ink colour in the supply list below. Then added a touch of Scallop Waves background stamp on the top of the panel to add interest and texture

I used warm copic grey marker to add shading to the coloured images and white gel pen to add highlight details to the images. I added shimmer to the mermaids, pearl, bubbles and fishes using shimmer pen. So this is now a one layer panel. I adhered this panel to the card base. The sentiment I simply stamped on white cardstock, trimmed and adhered using foam adhesives. That is it! All done. Here are some closeups of the card.

I am so thrilled with how this card turned out. This has motivated me to craft more in spite of how much I have on my plate right now. Maybe I will get more done. Let’s see. I have listed all the supplies below.

This is such a beautiful and sweet card, Gayatri!
Also, you are not alone! I haven’t crafted in a moment either! With my kids being homeschooled and getting them back into routine, it’s been hard finding time. Then when I usually do, I’m tired. lol So I completely understand how you must feel. Though, with time things will settle down. 😉 Best wishes for your daughter! 🙂
