Alcohol Inks background cards!

March 7, 2018 Simon Says Stamps

Hey everyone,

I have been playing with alcohol ink for past couple of day. Aaaand I LOVE it. Amazing backgrounds from mixing alcohol inks on yuppo paper. I also love adding gold mixative to add gold shimmer into the gorgeous background. Then I also added some gold foil into it as well. I thinking I made three background panels in about an hour. So happy with the result.

Also no major mess or inky fingers either. Thats because I didn’t do any fancy. No mixing or pouring or spraying with blending solution or using a brush….. Just dropping in the alcohol inks on yuppo paper and adding drops of blending solution. So no mess. Anyway, I made cards using two of those backgrounds. I am sharing with you those two cards today.

My first card has purples, reds and pinks with lots of the gold.

After making the background using Alcohol inks and mixatives, I added some gold foil to the background when still tacky. So a few random places has gold foil on it. Adds richness to the amazing background layers. I then die cut the background using stitched rectangle die from MFT’s Blueprint Sketch 25.

Then I die cut Simon’s Modern Flowers die using Simon’s gold glitter cardstock and adhered them on the edges of the alcohol ink background panel. I trimmed off the excess off the edges. The sentiment is from Simon’s Big Greetings stamp set. I gold embossed the sentiment on a white strip of cardstock. Then sponged Wilted Violet and Candied Apple distress inks for emboss resist. On the edges I just rubbed gold pigment ink. I embellished the panel with sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

Here are some closeup.

All the supplies used to make this card are listed below towards the end of the post. Love the rich and 2018 colour scheme on this card.

For my second card, I used blues and green alcohol inks to create the background. I could not resist adding gold mixative to it as well. This background also turned out bright and beautiful. My card is similar to the previous one except for the colours and placement of the elements on the card.

The orientation of this card is portrait and I used the same Modern Flowers die from Simon Says Stamp but die cut using white cardstock. I also adhered them on the top and towards the left of the card as though they are falling down. The sentiment is also from the same Big Greetings 1 stamp set which is black heat embossed on a strip of white cardstock and coloured using copic marker in the same colours from the background. The card front is embellished using sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

Here are some closeups of the card.

How amazing is that background? My eyes widens with admiration every time I look the background particularly certain parts where the colours blend along the mixative. The vibrant colours are to die for. I am bright colour girls and this makes me so so happy. I cannot wait to try out other techniques using alcohol inks.

Hope you are inspired by the alcohol inks background and my card.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a lovely day!
