Altenew April Release Blog Hop! + A Video!

April 16, 2018 Altenew

Hello everyone,

I am so excited to be part of Altenew April release blog hop.

This is my first release blog hop with Altenew. So excited to share with you a few projects using the products from the new release. I also have a video today on how I made one of the cards. This is going to be a bit of a long post. So make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy.

Before I go into my projects, if you are here from Sandra Dietrich’s Blog, then you are right on track on the blog hop. If this is your first stop, then do not worry, towards the end of the post I will provide the list of all the participants and details of the blog hop for you.

So my first card features the new Happy Heart stamp set, its coordinating Happy Heart die set and You Are Loved die. I paired these with the new Peach Gold Washi tape release last month.

I used the Peach Gold Washi on the background panel. I stamped the images from Happy Heart stamp set using Altenew’s Permanent Black Ink and coloured the images using copic markers. Details of the marker colours are listed below in the supplies. Die cut all the coloured images using the coordinating Happy Heart die set.

For the sentiment, I used the new and beautiful You Are Loved die. I love this die. Perfect in every way. Beautiful sentiment, perfect size, lovely font. I die cut this die using the gold matt glitter paper from Glitzy paper pad. I love the matt finish on these glitter papers.

To assemble the card, I clustered the coloured images from Happy Heart stamp set into two. I tucked one cluster on the top left of the sentiment on the panel and the other on the bottom right of the sentiment. I used foam adhesives to adhered the cluster as well as the sentiment die cut to give dimension. The panel is adhered on the white card base using foam adhesives.

Here are some closeups of the card.

All the supplies used to make this card are listed below. Love how this card turned out particularly the colour combination, the sentiment die cut in matt gold and how they all coordinate with the background washi tape.

My second project or should I say projects uses the new Watercolor Dots stamp set. I love this stamp set for its watercolour dots background. But more so for the small accent images to be used on the dots. I went to town with this stamp set. My first card uses the heart shape accent image from the stamp set to create a one layer card.

Here is video tutorial on how I made this card.

This is my attempt at making a video after a very long time. Hope you like it. Here are more closeups of the card.

And like I said I made couple more cards using this stamp set as I love it so much. On this card I used the heart shape accent image along with the scribble round image and tiny dots accent images to make flowers.

I randomly stamped the flowers using the three accent images from the stamp set on the card panel. Coloured the images using blue and yellow alcohol markers, added shimmer using Wink of Stella clear shimmer pen. The sentiment from the same Watercolor Dots stamp set is white heat embossed on a strip of white cardstock, trimmed and sponged with Altenew’s Lemon Crisp ink to coordinate with the yellow on the background flower on the panel. The strip is adhered using foam adhesives and embellished with sparking clear sequins.

Here are some closeups of the card.

When doing a one layer card or nearly one layer card, the choice of colours make a big impact. Choosing bright colour combo or a unique colour combo makes the background. I love colouring but I also love stamping to create a background. Smaller images in a stamp set makes both happen and that is pure joy for me.

This third card uses the large watercolour dots from the stamp set. This is clean, simple and easy to make card. There are so many sentiments in the stamp set. So with changing the colours of the watercolour dots on the background and varying the sentiment, you can easily make a set of card to give as gift.

I used MISTI to stamp the background because I wanted even coverage of the watercolour dots. I stamped the dots twice on a white panel using MISTI. I trimmed the panel to a quarter inch smaller than the card front. Then used the heart shaped accent image from the same stamp set to stamp three heart images on three dots using Altenew permanent black ink. I brushed the image with shimmer to highlight them. The sentiment also from the stamp set is simply white heat embossed on a strip of white cardstock and sponged the strip with Altenew’s Lemon Crisp ink. I matted this sentiment strip with a black cardstock strip slightly larger in size. This black matt ties in with the black outline heart shapes stamped on the background panel and brings the card together. The card panel adhered on the card base using foam adhesive and embellished with sequins.

Here are some closeups of the card.

Again, being clean and simple nearly one layer card, the key is choosing the colours. High contrast, fresh and light makes a huge difference. But if you like rich colours, go for it. Again the watercolour dots background can also be heat embossed and sponged with colourful inks or watercoloured for emboss resist background. Love the versatility of this stamp set.

All the supplies used to make these cards are listed below.

Somehow, I don’t have any glitter paper. I love love love your yellow watercolor dots card. I actually was pretty sure I didn’t need this set…til I got here. You’ve convinced me that I’m in love! And you are just SO great at taking a few small stamps to make an amazing card! I just love visiting your blog. I leave inspired every single time!

Great cards! I love what you’ve done with the Watercolor Dots set! What a fun idea to use the hearts as flower petals and the circles and swirls for the centers. Such bright and cheerful colors, as well.

So cool! I love your creativity!! I was looking at the products you used on the 2nd card and said, “That’s is a fabulous stamp but it’s not from Altenew’s release, is it?” I then noticed the watercolor dots background stamp behind the card and realized it was just one heart from that set!! So clever!

The Altenew washi tape makes a subtle backdrop for the mega sentiment on your first card. Love the way you nestled that sentiment between the Altenew Happy Heart stamp and die set. Also, love the tumbling hearts in your card. Such a crisp clean technique. Thank you for inspiring me!
